Herzliya

On about one dunam of land in Herzliya, a two-story house and a basement with an area of 400 square meters and a 200 square meter basement were built. The project was created out of the desire of the owners for a house that will express a harmonious combination of modern and classic elements, while maintaining a continuous connection between interior and exterior. As part of the architectural concept of the building, it was decided to build two buildings on the plot. One building contains the living room on the ground floor and the parents' bedroom on the floor above. A second building includes the kitchen and family room on the ground floor and above the children's bedrooms. The two detached structures are connected to one unit by a covered glass and iron cubical structure with a zinc roof. Both buildings received in the style of the facades a characteristic of a classic building, wooden windows and wooden shutters, while the cube connecting them gives the modern look. The two buildings are connected by a wooden bridge and wooden stairs leading down from it. Arriving at the building from the street, it passes through an iron gate and enters directly into the patio garden. The garden leads to an entrance located in the middle between the two separate buildings. The pavement of the garden path continues inside the house and entering the building feels as if it is walking down the street between two buildings. The dining room is located on the same "street". It continues out into the back garden to a spacious pergola. The garden paths as well as the internal "street" were paved with basalt tiles resembling street flooring and the interior floors of the buildings in oak parquet. The basement floor is also strongly connected with the exterior of the building, by lowered courtyards. In the basement there is a cinema room and a residential unit for an adult child. Our challenge in the project was to maintain the connection between exterior and interior and create the combination between the modern look and the classic look using the right materials. The use of ancient oak parquet, basalt stone in trommel processing, mosaics, tassos stone and gray stone collection created especially for the project, led to the right combination of styles and the feeling of a new home, with a rooted presence. Complex carpentry work was required for the wooden bridge connecting the buildings, and the curving staircase, which are a central element with a presence in the interior of the project.
